Safety & Crisis Protocol

Last updated: June 16, 2026

Our Commitment

RedGifs AI is an adult AI companion platform designed for entertainment purposes. While our platform is not a mental health service, we recognize that users may sometimes experience emotional distress. We take the safety and wellbeing of our users seriously and maintain active protocols to support users in crisis.

This page describes those protocols in plain language, in accordance with applicable law including Washington HB 2225, California SB 243, Oregon SB 1546, Connecticut SB 5, Idaho SB 1297, Nebraska LB 525, Georgia SB 540, and the Australian eSafety Phase 2 Industry Codes.

How We Detect Crisis Expressions

Our AI systems use evidence-based methods to detect expressions of:

  • Suicidal ideation or intent
  • Self-harm
  • Eating disorders and disordered eating behaviors
  • Imminent physical danger or threats of violence

Detection operates continuously throughout every conversation using contextual analysis aligned with current clinical best practices. Detection is not limited to explicit statements — the system is designed to recognize indirect or implied expressions of distress.

What Happens When a Crisis Expression Is Detected

When the system detects a crisis expression, the following steps occur immediately and automatically:

Current interaction is paused. The AI will not continue entertainment or roleplay content.

Crisis resources are provided. The user is immediately referred to appropriate crisis services, including the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and, for users under 25, YouthLine. Regional resources are provided based on the user's location where determinable.

Harmful content is blocked. The AI will not generate any content that encourages, describes, normalizes, or provides instructions relating to self-harm, suicide, eating disorders, or physical violence.

Escalation procedures apply. If a user continues to express crisis indicators after an initial referral, the system applies escalating intervention consistent with clinical best practices — including repeated referrals, additional resource information, and encouragement to contact a crisis service or trusted person immediately.

What Our AI Will Never Do

Regardless of how a conversation develops, our AI is designed and programmed to never:

  • Claim to be a licensed therapist, counselor, psychologist, psychiatrist, or any other mental health or behavioral health professional
  • Provide clinical diagnoses, treatment plans, or medication guidance
  • Encourage, describe, normalize, or provide instructions for suicide, self-harm, or disordered eating
  • Continue roleplay or entertainment content when a user has expressed a genuine crisis
  • Simulate emotional distress, guilt, or abandonment to discourage a user from seeking help or ending a conversation
  • Encourage a user to keep their distress secret from a trusted adult, counselor, or healthcare provider
  • Substitute for professional mental health care in any circumstance

If you need mental health support, please contact a licensed professional or refer to the crisis resources listed below.

Safeguards We Maintain

To protect our users, RedGifs AI maintains the following technical and operational safeguards:

  • Evidence-based automated detection of crisis-related expressions using contextual and linguistic analysis
  • Content generation controls that prevent the AI from producing content that encourages or describes self-harm methods
  • Escalation logic that increases intervention intensity if a user continues to express distress after an initial referral
  • Content guardrails that prevent the generation of certain categories of harmful content regardless of user instruction
  • Biometric age assurance measures to prevent minors from accessing the platform
  • Regular review of our detection methods and crisis resources against current clinical best practices
  • Active output monitoring to identify and address safety failures

This platform contains explicit adult content and is not suitable for minors. Users must be 18 years of age or older to access this platform. If you are under 18, please leave this site immediately.
